What on in October half term - sponsored by Go Walkabout

The October half-term holiday is almost upon us, and as it includes Halloween, there are lots of spooky treats planned locally, as well as other activities in the great outdoors to make the most of the Autumnal treasures to be found. Here is our round-up of what’s on – and where. So don your witches hat, grab your broomstick, and get planning some half-term holiday high-jinks!

24/10/15 – 01/11/15 Halloween Shriek Week at Drusillas Venture through the creepy, cobwebbed corridors of Haunted Heights, and play hide and shriek with the witchy sisters Hocus and Pocus.  Try to track down the missing mummy in the twisted terror maze. 24/10/15 – 01/11/15 Haunted Abbey – 1066 Battle of Hastings , Abbey and Battlefield Have a go at creating creepy crafts and see if you can scare the resident ghouls enough to win a prize for the best children’s Halloween costume. More information .

24/10/15  7.30pm Northiam Bonfire Society Procession and Fireworks The Procession will leave the Bonfire Field (on the A28, south of the village) at 7.30pm, processing into village, and returning for the lighting of the Bonfire at 8.30pm, followed by the fireworks. Bar, food & amusements will be available on the field from 6pm. Entry to the field is £1, you are advised to bring a torch. More details.

24/10/15 – 25/09/15 World Crazy Gold Championships Hastings Adventure and Crazy Golf. Now in its 5th year, the competition will take place across 7 rounds with preliminary rounds being played on Saturday and the final on Sunday amongst the top 18 players in the world. The winner takes the top cash prize. More information.

24/10/2015 – 01/11/2015 ‘Forest of Fear’ Groombridge Place, near Tunbridge Wells, 10.00 – 17.00 Families can witness the spooky adventures of Hansel and Gretel, as they escape the clutches of the Evil Witch, only to stumble into another monstrous nightmare – the Monster Mash Halloween Party. 25/10/15 The Big Draw with New Road Artists, Rye Creative Centre TN31 7LS, Free drawing workshops as part of the world’s biggest drawing festival. Aimed at varying age groups. More information.

26/10/2015 &  27/10/2015 Medieval Mop Fair at Bodiam Castle,  11.00 – 16.00 Come along to our annual hiring fair and discover some of the medieval jobs that were on offer to those who wanted to work in the castle. Would you make the grade to become a castle cook, servant or gong scourer? The castle cooks will also be busy in the kitchen area preparing some medieval dishes, as they would have done for Sir Edward and his guests. More information.

26/10/15 – 30/10/15 Unearth Ghostly Facts at Battle Museum of Local History Unearth ghostly facts about the iconic and historic and town of Battle. There is also free entry to the museum from September 28th to 31st October. More information.

27/10/2015 – 31/10/2015 Kent and East Sussex Railway , Tenterden Take a spooky train ride, meet Mr Mystery and enjoy spooktacular entertainment at Tenterden station with themed ‘make and take’ activities.
