With half-term round the corner, we have rounded up a list of events happening both locally, and also further afield – to give you some great options to entertain your kids through the upcoming holiday. There are both indoor and outdoor options, and things to suit a range of ages. 13th February Source Park opens (skateboard and bmx park) On the site of the old Victorian baths/ice-ink this exciting new leisure facility will be opening on/below Hastings Seafront. As well as the park itself, there will also be a cafe with a great view of all the action, and a shop. There will be dedicated sessions for Under 12’s and female only sessions. There will also be coaching sessions for beginners looking to get into riding or skating. Click here to find more details.

13th/14th/15th/16th/17th/18th/19th/20th/21st February Brighton Science Festival A collection of science-themed workshops and activities related to all aspects of scientific knowledge. Includes the Blast Science presents: Star Force Family Science Show, Mystery at Frankenstein Castle and a Minecraft Dinosaur Dig.  Look at the Full Programme of Events here.

13th/14th/15th/16th/17th/18th/19th/20th/21st February Charlie’s Chocolate Adventure at Leeds Castle Go on an adventure through the grounds , solving riddles to lead you to giant chocolate bars, each with a golden ticket hidden inside. £1 per person to enter and includes a chocolate prize at the end. 13th/14th/15th/16th/17th/18th/19th/20th/21st February Half Term Children’s Trail at Michelham Priory Bring children with you and go exploring on an exciting trail. In the grounds if the weather is good or in the house if it is raining. Click here for more details.

13th/14th & 20th/21st February  A Day out with Thomas at the Kent and East Sussex Railway Young Thomas the Tank Engine enthusiasts will be in their element when they get a chance to meet the Fat Controller and take unlimited steam train rides from Tenterden to Rolvenden Station. There are lots of other Thomas -themed events taking place on the day. For more details click here.

13th/14th/15th/16th/17th/18th/19th/20th/21st February 11.00 – 16.00 Cat Burglar Trail at Scotney Castle (National Trust) There’s been a burglary at Scotney and now the Chief Inspector needs help to find out what went missing. Follow your map and help check off the inventory as you go around. £1 a trail. Click here for more details.

13th/14th/15th/16th/17th/18th/19th/20th/21st February 11.00 – 16.00 February Half Term Trail at Bodiam Castle Come and have a go at the half-term trail and discover what foods were and weren’t on the dining table at the time of Lenten fasting. There’ll be the chance to taste some Lenten dishes during cooking demonstrations. £2.50 per trail. For more details click here.

15th/16th/17th/18th/19th/20th/21st February  Scotney Treasure Trail (National Trust) 10.00 – 16.00 This half-term we’ve hidden some treasure within our garden. You will need to be clever to work out the cryptic clues, each one will lead you to a different location and eventually the treasure. £1 per trail. Click here for more details.

15th February Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie  at the De La Warr Pavilion 11.00  Roll up; roll up, for the most ‘magnifical’, ‘tremendible’ and ‘fantasticulous’ experience in town. The caravan of curiosities and its crew of mysterious misfits have arrived to entertain, amuse and beguile you. For more details click here

15th February Experimental Print Workshop at the De La Warr Pavilion 10.30  – 12.30 8 – 12 years  & 14.00 – 16.00 13 – 17 years, £6.00 per person. Investigate ideas about subtracting and erasing, trying out practical relief-printing activities – scoring, scraping and cutting various materials in the Studio. Click here for more details.

15th – 19th February Normans and Saxons! at Battle Abbey 10.00 – 15.00 Steel yourself as a Norman or Saxon soldier this half term. Step forward and join the ranks of the Norman and Saxon armies. 15th – 21st February Fishy Stocktake at the Blue Reef Aquarium, Hastings The annual stocktake takes place this week at Blue Reef. You are invited to volunteers to help spot and record the number of certain species including seahorses, sharks, octopus and lionfish. The experts at Blue Reef then do an official check and the child who most accurately reports the population of each of the animals will win a free yearly membership. Click here for more details.

16th February ‘A Hearty Work Out’ Workshop at Herstmonceux Science Centre 10.30 – 13.00 or 14.00 – 16.30 For children 6 – 9 years. £10.75 per child. Kids will learn about the heart and how it keeps you alive. You will get your heart pumping, check out your pulse and make your own stethoscope. 16th February The Fat Controller at Drusillas Park The Fat Controller will be causing a locomotion when he alights at the Park to take control of the efficient running of the Thomas and Friends railway. 17th February Elsa’s Frozen Party at Blue Reef Aquarium, Hastings 10.45 – 13.00 The Snow Queen is hosting a Frozen-themed tea-party at Hastings Blue Reef Aquarium. There will be the chance to meet the Snow Queen and enjoy a guided tour of the aquarium followed by a tea party in the cafe. There are also Frozen themed games and activities.
